How to Use and Create Custom Options

This article provides sellers with a step-by-step guide on how to enable, configure, and apply the Custom Options feature to their products, including a preview of the end-buyer experience.

Custom Options allow you to add tailored, interactive dropdown menus (like custom finishes or materials) directly to your products. By allowing you to make these selections for buyers, it eliminates back-and-forth communication, prevents ordering errors, and ensures you capture the exact specifications the buyer needs at the time of purchase.

Typically, most platforms (including Shopify) only allow a couple of options per product, inclusive of size, color, and perhaps one more feature. This functionality allows greater flexibility for products in jewelry, bridal, and many more other categories. An example build could be:

  • A ring available in Silver or Gold

  • Multiple sizes

  • Different central gemstone (with varying additional pricing depending on the stone)

  • White gold, Gold, Copper, Silver additional design flourish

  • Diamonds or no diamonds surrounding the central gemstone

The Custom Options feature allows you to expand your choices for your customers. Please note, exporting this via CSV or PDF is currently possible, but there isn't any ability to sync the Custom Options with your ERP or external system (currently), because most systems, including Shopify, cannot handle this functionality.

Because Custom Options add an extra layer of detail to your products, small setup mistakes can sometimes cause unexpected hiccups with your ordering flows. To make sure everything runs perfectly and is a great fit for your business, please reach out to Support or your Account Manager. We will review and confirm your setup with you before getting the feature officially enabled!

NOTE: Custom Options are currently available to approved users on our Business or Enterprise account tiers.
