Handling Returns and Refunds in Commission Reports

This article will show you how to ensure that any commission previously earned on an invoice is appropriately deducted when a return or refund occurs.

How-to

Managing commissions for returns is all about accuracy - making sure payouts reflect what was actually sold, not just what was ordered.

  1. Make sure to create a return. To know more on how to manage returns, please check here.

  2. Input the products that you want to return, add shipping and adjustments if needed.

  3. Make sure that you see a commission for the agent under the Returns Summary.

All commissions on returns are displayed as negative amounts. This represents a "commission reversal," effectively subtracting the value from the agent's or showroom's total payout for the period.

The commission rate follows the commission percentage from the original invoice, not the current settings in the team commission settings page. This ensures that the reversal matches the original payout rate exactly.

The commission dollar values are calculated based on the Return Subtotal (pre-tax value of returned items), not the original invoice total.

Note:

  • Commission percentage on a return is strictly read-only. If you need to adjust it, you'll have to adjust it from the source invoice.

Returns on Commission Reports:

Returns are handled alongside invoices on Commission Reports.

Once you have selected the return invoice, authorized and finalized it for payout, the commission status badge will change from pending (yellow) to finalized (blue).

Notes:

  • You cannot finalize a report if there are unpaid invoices or unrefunded returns (a warning bar will appear).
